  • Do I need a piano to take lessons and how do I pick the right piano?
Yes, the student will need a piano to practice at home. To know how to pick the perfect piano for you please refer to my blog post found here: https://www.tiffanysmusicaletudes.com/post/how-to-pick-your-first-piano
  • What ages do you teach?
I typically teach students that are age 6+ and I offer adult lessons as well.
  • At what age can my child start learning piano?
The best age to start piano is between ages 5-9, but of course any age from 5 and up are welcomed.
  • How do I know when my child is ready to take piano lessons?
Here are some guidelines to know when your child is ready to start piano lessons: They know the difference between their Right and Left hand. Make sure they know their alphabets (A-G, and be able to say that backwards) The size of their hands: They are able to place five fingers on the five adjacent white keys on the piano comfortably without having to stretch their fingers. Finger dexterity: Being able to move individual fingers independently from one another is important for being able to play piano keys with the correct fingers. Child should have an interest in learning music, if the child does not want to learn piano, then it is better to not force them. Being able to comprehend and do simple reading (If the parent does not wish to help the student with their daily practice).
  • Do you teach group lessons?
No, I do not teach group lessons. I believe in private lessons, this is so I can teach to the needs of each student individually and cater to their needs better. Also, in private lessons it is easier to correct bad musical posture than group lessons.
  • Does it matter if I, or my child, have never had any sort of musical background?"
No, it doesn’t matter. I teach students that have no musical knowledge to those who have advanced musical knowledge.
  • I, or my child, have some knowledge on basic piano skills already; do I need to start all over?"
No, you do not need to start all over, and will not need to start at the beginner level. To appropriately assess where your musical skills are at, please go to contact me and book a free assessment/meeting with me to discuss your musical education and goals further.
  • Do you do recitals?
If there is enough interest for a recital from parents and students, I hold a year-end recital.
  • Do we have to do music lessons every week?
The best is to have lessons every week. It is important for me, as a teacher, to check the student’s progress and correct any bad form the student may learn every week. But if that is what your schedule allows, I am willing to teach every other week. Please note that the student’s progress may be a little slower than usual if taking this route.
  • Can parent’s “sit in” on lessons?
Some students do better with their parents present in the lesson, but some students find it distracting for their parents to be sitting in on their lessons. It is up to you and your child to decide what is the best approach. If you do not sit in on the lessons, there is the option of sitting in the designated waiting area.
  • How many days and how long should my child practice for?
The minimum amount of days I ask for my students to practice piano is 5 days a week, the more a student practices piano the faster their progress may be. The amount of time required to practice is dependent on their piano level. The time given to the student to practice is a minimum guideline; the more time spent practicing is better. The more a student practices, it will help them to build their finger strength, muscle memory, and increase their understanding of concepts gone over in our piano lessons.
  • When can I enroll for piano lessons?
I accept students all year round.
  • Do you do make up lessons?
Yes I do offer makeup lessons. The lesson will need to be made up through an online lesson within the week that the student missed their lesson. If that does not work with your schedule, we can further discuss what will work better for everyone.
  • Do you teach on holidays?
Typically, families like to take a break from piano on stat holidays and school holidays. I do offer lessons on holidays if parents and students want to have a lesson. I also offer summer lessons as well.
  • I have a schedule change; do I have to quit piano lessons?
If there are some extra-curricular activities that happen to be on the same day as your piano lesson, I will work with you as best as I can to schedule you a different piano lesson time that works for you.
  • Do you teach at student’s homes?
I do offer lessons at my own home and at student’s houses as well. There is also an online option where I teach over Skype.
